With over 150 dealerships, Hyundai wished to provide web visitors with as much information about their local dealer as possible. This need came from both an improved customer service angle and as a way of reducing dealership location queries that were otherwise handled by the company’s telephone help line.
The system specified by experience engine allowed visitors to the web site to enter either their town or city locale or their postcode. Alternatively, the visitor could enter their local dealership name, if they knew that information.
The system then returned the five closest dealerships to the visitor based upon their postcode. However, the requirement wasn’t quite as straightforward as that.
Hyundai wanted to provide their customers with the best possible information, and so, requested that the system give the best possible dealership considering the journey they might have to make.
The System therefore had to consider ‘natural barriers’, which could affect how close a dealer was. For example, a natural barrier might include the visitor having to cross a river, or take a ferry to reach a dealer. The system then took this into account and adjusted the closest dealerships accordingly.
The results of the search were presented to the visitor in the form of a map with the dealership marked clearly. Also the dealership’s facilities were all highlighted to ensure it was the most appropriate.
The system was entirely database driven and needed to be updateable on a weekly basis to cope with the turnaround of dealers and the frequent update and changes that were made.
