Xchangeteam is the UK's leading freelance resourcing service in communications and marketing. Xchangeteam work with a number of blue chip clients who require top quality freelancers and teams of people at all levels from executive up to board level. The company is constantly seeking to recruit new freelance personnel to its register, which requires reviewing applications, registration and interviewing of candidates on a daily basis. At the other end of the spectrum, once recruited, freelancers must be matched to client vacancies and the entire process managed. Naturally this generates a large administrative overhead that Xchangteteam was keen to streamline with Internet technologies. They also wanted a web site to:
- Promote Xchangeteam to both freelancers and client companies
- Support the business process
- Empower freelancers via self-management
- Provide advice and support for Xchangeteam's freelance community
- Provide convenient ways for clients to manage freelancers
experience engine inherited the initial web site from the previous incumbent agency, and among the first tasks that we recommended was to talk to Xchangeteam's end users to see what they thought of the site, something that had not been undertaken for the initial build.
Our research revealed that the aims of the site, though worthy, went largely unused due to a number of usability issues. This prompted a complete architectural overhaul and redesign of the site that was welcomed by the end users and evidenced in increased site traffic.
Further enhancements have been made to reduce the administrative overhead including an online registration web site which negates the need for a lengthy paper based process, the introduction of e-timesheets for clients that can be approved by simply clicking a link on an e-mail, and the ability for freelancers to keep their skills constantly updated via the site.
By reducing the administrative overhead, Xchangeteam's Agents have been freed up to get on with more valuable –and profitable- activities. Its freelance customers are more in control 24/7 and clients have benefited from the increased convenience provided by the online freelance management tools.
